Bahrain solidarity group launched in Toronto

by James Clark

Solidarity activists in Canada have launched a new group called Concerned Canadians for Bahrain.

Organized by Bahrainis and their allies in Toronto, the group aims to raise awareness about the worsening situation in Bahrain and to expose the hypocritical approach of the West, which claims to support human rights and democracy while supporting the Saudi-led invasion of the tiny island state.

The group recently held a solidarity action opposite the US Consulate in Toronto, demanding that Saudi and UAE troops withdraw immediately from Bahrain, where they are backing the ruling Khalifa family’s attacks on peaceful protesters. Bahraini activists have been “disappeared” from their homes and workplaces as the government clamps down on all dissent. Opposition figures face torture, rape and murder in Bahrain, while most of the global media ignores the repression.
