As the global economic crisis continues to deepen, corporations and governments—from military regimes, to Conservatives, to labour governments—are pushing increasingly severe austerity measures in an attempt to make ordinary people pay for a crisis they did not create.

Benoit Renaud is Responsable à la mobilisation for Québec solidaire, the party of the left in Quebec. We asked him about Québec solidaire (QS), its history, its successes, and the challenges in the months ahead.

After weeks and months of protest, in late June the Greek parliament narrowly passed a new austerity package. This means it will get the next 12 billion euro installment of its EU rescue deal—but as far as the bankers are concerned, Greece has already gone bankrupt.
