RESIST AND REBEL
Taking on Carney and the Canadian state

An half-day conference that analyses the settler colonial Canadian state, its role in global imperialism and strategies for revolutionary change.

**DATE CHANGE**
Sunday, October 26
12:00 edt | 11am cdt | 9am pdt
25 Cecil St.Tkaronto & on zoom

Prime Minister Carney, as one of the richest people in the country, is the perfect class warrior to look after the 1%. His ongoing nationalism, flag waving and “elbows up” movement has been the perfect cover for his defense of corporate Canada.

In addition to his attempt to force the Air Canada flight attendants back to work, Carney's Liberal government has been attacking migrant workers, arming genocide and bolstering destructive industries that accelerate ecological crisis.

This conference will discuss Canada’s role in the global imperial system and analyze just how far and how fast this Liberal government is going in order to look after the interests of the capitalist class, at the expense of everyone else.

Schedule:

12:00 edt | 11am cdt | 9am pdt
Canada, Carney and global crisis
Carney is planning the biggest increases in military spending in Canadian history while arming a genocide against Palestinians and building more planet-destroying fossil fuel infrastructure. In an era of global inter-imperialist conflict, what is Canada's role?

Speaker:
Chantal Sundaram is a Socialist, trade union and anti-racist campaigner and Ottawa organizer for the International Socialists

1:30 edt | 12:30 cdt | 10:30 pdt
Bill C-5, settler-colonialism and Indigenous Resistance – Canada’s crimes and the bloody roots of settler colonialism
The Trump attacks have given a green light to Canadian capitalists to rapidly, and without consultation, build more polluting extraction projects against the explicit wishes of Indigenous Land Defenders. How do we stop the trampling of Indigenous rights and protect the natural world?

Speakers:
Michelle Paul is a mother, treaty rights holder, water protector, land defender, advocate and activist. She is a member of the Wasoqopa'q (Acadia) First Nation. Her advocacy work focuses on Indigenous allies and settler solidarity to resist colonial infringements on Mi’kmaw sovereignty, including the Alton Gas Resistance movement in Mi’kma’ki. She is currently actively advocating for Land protectors at the Hunters Mountain resistance camp on Unama’ki (Cape Breton, NS)
Brian Champ is a Climate justice and anti-racist activist, and member of the Toronto East International Socialists

3:00 edt | 2:00 cdt | 12:00 pdt
Carney, Poilievre and the fight against the far right
The far right continues to build anti-immigrant sentiment, opposition to trans rights and Islamophobia. They are enabled not just by Poilievre and the Conservatives but also by Carney and his bill C2 which builds even more hatred and division. How do we build movements of solidarity that can stop the right wing attacks?

Speakers:
Michelle Robidoux is an East end Toronto anti-fascist organizer, trade unionist and healthcare campaigner and member of the International Socialists
Rohit Revi is an immigrant worker and union organizer from Kerala, India and member of the International Socialists

4:30 edt | 3:30 cdt | 1:30 pdt
Taking on Carney’s attacks: the role of workers’ struggle
The Air Canada flight attendants showed that you could fight back and win. They joined postal workers, education workers in Ontario, West Jet Mechanics and Metro workers in rejecting contracts negotiated by the union brass. What are the dynamics within the union movement and how can organized workers bring about revolutionary change?

Speakers:
Katherine Grzejszczak is paramedic and CUPE Ontario executive member who was fired for speaking out in support of the Palestinian struggle.
Carolyn Egan is the president of the Steelworkers Toronto Area Council and member of the Torontno West International Socialists
