What next for the Bolivarian Revolution? Venezuela, Chavez and Socialism

"Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the President of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world."

These were the words of Hugo Chavez at the United Nations in 2006 shortly after George W. Bush asserted America's right to police the world as American troops were enforcing the brutal occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan while eyeing up Iran. A mere 4 years earlier this same man was kidnapped and government toppled in a dramatic coup which was crushed by the overwhelming support of Venezuelans as they marched from the country side and the urban centers to the palace to demand Chavez free and the government reinstated. What made this government worth defending? Why did the call for "21st century socialism" send shock-waves around the world and what was it in practice? Where next for the Bolivarian Revolution after Chavez?

Join the Toronto West International Socialists for dinner and a film montage made up of 3 different films that show a glimpse of the last 10 years of the Bolivarian Revolution and then a discussion on what's next for the Bolivarian Revolution.

Suggested donation: $10.00 to $20.00 or pay what you can. All proceeds go to the 2013 Socialist Worker Fighting Fund.
