"Yesterday the Devil came here. Right here. And it smells of sulphur still today."
These were the words of Hugo Chavez at the United Nations in 2006 shortly after George W. Bush spoke there asserting America's right to police the world. A mere 4 years earlier Chavez was kidnapped and his government toppled in a dramatic coup which was crushed by the overwhelming support of Venezuelans. They marched from the countryside and the urban centers to the palace to demand that Chavez be freed and the government reinstated.
Why did so many mobilize to defend his government? Why did the call for "21st century socialism"
send shock-waves around the world and what was it in practice?
Join us for dinner and a discussion on what's next for the Bolivarian Revolution.
