Join the York University I.S. reading circle in discussing "Islam and the Enlightenment", a 2006 article that addresses the relationship between Islam and the intellectual movement in the 17th and 18th centuries that saw the rise of new classes in Europe, and that challenges the claim that Islam needs its own Enlightenment today.
Wednesday, October 23, 2:30-4:30pm
441 Student Centre, York University
Here's how the reading circle works:
1) Try to read as much of the article as possible before the meeting. You can find the article here.
2) Come up with at least one comment or question about the article that you can share during the discussion.
3) At the reading circle, a brief talk will introduce the article and its main points.
4) The rest of the meeting will be questions and discussion about the article.
If you plan on attending, please RSVP. Email yorkusocialists@gmail.com.
