The recent AGO exhibition of Ai Weiwei’s “According to What” provoked much interest in, and debate about,
his work. Born in Beijing in 1957, Ai is an outspoken social critic who has used his voice as an artist to
challenge corruption and human rights abuses. Ai was arrested by Chinese authorities in April 2011
and held incommunicado for three months. Upon his release, he was prohibited from traveling abroad,
engaging in public speech, and was subjected to continued government surveillance.
Join us for a film and discussion about the art and politics of Ai Weiwei.
