Greece is at the sharp end of the global economic crisis, and years of austerity measures have only brought more suffering and the rise of fascism. But the Greek people have also fought back, including more than 30 general strikes and a clear rejection of austerity at the recent elections. The left alternative party, SYRIZA, was elected on a mandate to end austerity, but have already started to backtrack, causing splits among their ranks. What can we learn from Greece about the economic crisis, austerity and resistance? What are people in Greece doing to fight austerity and to push SYRIZA?
Join a public forum to discuss austerity and resistance after Syriza's election. Monday March 23, 7pm at the Toronto Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil St.
