Over the past months, there have been massive demonstrations in India against the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party, the BJP. The ruling government enacted a new citizenship amendment law, designed to demonize and disenfranchise the migrant Muslim population. The government has also systematically targeted labour laws, trade union rights and public education. But people have mobilized in opposition and responded strongly against both Islamophobia and austerity. A one day general strike brought 250 million people into the streets. University students have been occupying campuses and massive demonstrations have pushed back against the new laws. Join us for this public forum to discuss the prospects for a new political awakening in India.
Organized by the International Socialists
