Bernie Sanders’ campaign for US president as an open socialist was a huge inspiration in the US and here in Canada. The decision to end the campaign in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis and the undermining of his campaign by the Democratic Party establishment has been a blow.
Issues that he championed: universal health care, $15 minimum wage, free tuition and challenging corporate power and his campaign slogan ‘Us, not me’ resonate in this time of pandemic more than ever and brought millions into the political process. How will this momentum be carried forward by workers and the organized left? And, how do activists and socialists engage with electoral politics?
