Defeat Carney’s War Budget!

Letting the Carney budgetpass on Monday will mean a generational defeat for the working class. It shifts a huge amount of money away from working people to fossil fuel corporations, mining industries and war production.

 



It will mean 40,000public sector job losses, a $400 millionreduction in healthcare spending, gutting services for Indigenous people, a racist and cruel attack on migrants, more planet killing projectswith less oversight and billions for war. It must be opposed.



 

The NDP must vote against this devastating budget. The party brass may fear an election – given that they were decimated in the last vote. But supporting this budget or abstaining will only cement their status as an irrelevant party that capitulates to Liberals at every turn. They will never get past this perception and never be able to rebuild a militant base without standing up for working people and differentiating themselves from the Liberals. If ever there was a time to change course, it is now.

 



Regardless of what the NDP decides, workers have no option – we must fight back. PSAC, which will see the majority of direct job losses, are just a couple of years from the largest single union strikein Canadian history and their members are organizing. Auto workers at CAMI in Ingersoll have declared that they will occupy the plantto stop it being shut down. Quebec workersare mobilizing against austerity and environmentally destructive policies on November 29. Postal Workers, Air Canadaworkers and more have shown a willingness to fight on the picket lines.



 

This is the force that will fight the Liberals and can build a renewed worker’s movement. And this is the only force that can rebuild the NDP.
