Join us for our first meeting this summer to discuss Black Against Empire: the history and politics of the Black Panther Party, by Joshua Bloom and Waldo E. Martin.
In 1966, community college students Bobby Seale and Huey Newton armed themselves, began patrolling the police, and promised to prevent police brutality. The Black Panther Party opposed the U.S. government and positioned itself as part of a global revolution. The Party grew and had offices in 68 U.S. cities. But by 1971 it had disintegrated. Join us for a disucssion of this important history.
