ISIS, Israel and instability in the Middle East

Israel has escalated its attacks on Palestinians and is about to launch a major war against Gaza, possibly including a ground attack. They have called up reservists and are massing them at the Gaza border. The Israeli military is saying that they expect it to be a long and protracted campaign to get rid of Hamas once and for all. Meanwhile, a renewed insurgency in Iraq has seized control of several key cities and declared a caliphate. This has increased pressure on the Iraqi government of Nouri al-Maliki and led to calls for a return of the United States military to the country, with the Obama administration openly discussing the possibility of U.S. airstrikes and committing 300 military advisers to Baghdad.

Join us after the World Cup final for dinner and a discussion of what's happening in Israel and Iraq and it's implications for the region.
